AFTERIMAGE. Where light lingers as presence, 2026
Traveling exhibition project, inauguration date 2026; editorial publication.
Where light lingers as presence
Afterimage begins as a reflection on persistence – visual and mental.
That phenomenon by which an image remains even after the light has gone.
The project takes shape from this threshold:
between what has been seen and what continues to exist without being present.
Conceived and curated by Lorenzo Uccellini at the invitation of Vladimir Martynov,
Afterimage unfolds as a collective exhibition in which each work acts as a trace, a residue, an echo.
At its core – never explicitly stated – remains the figure of Andrey Martynov.
Not as a subject, but as a diffused presence – something that continues to imprint itself through the images and within the relationships that generated them.
The project avoids linear narration and instead moves through layers:
visions, memories, interferences.
In this sense, the exhibition comes closer to a perceptual field than to an exhibition path.
In his essay, David A. Lewis reads Afterimage as a space where the figure of the curator approaches that of the artist – not through a merging of roles, but through intensity of vision.
A device capable of holding together works, presences, and absences without resolving them.
Afterimage does not document.
It does not represent.
It remains.
