A city and its ghosts

For Lorenzo Di Loreto, Pesaro is a city of faceless ghosts – ectoplasms of memory evoked through fluid, shifting images, made even more elusive by a black and white with lunar reflections.

A nocturnal, evanescent city, where familiar corners dissolve into motion,
like the streets of Lisbon in Lisbon Story,
the shops of Rimini in Amarcord,
or the wounded city of Rome, Open City.

Like frames from an auteur film, Di Loreto leads us through suspended places,
exploring a past that borders the present,
tracing fragments of anonymous yet familiar figures –
the “village fools”, the outcasts, those who slipped beyond the track of normality.

The missing photograph

Personal memories – filtered through family stories,
the gaze of a young man, the understanding of an adult,
and finally, the feeling of a city.

In this project, Di Loreto gathers the figures that inhabited the collective imagination of generations.
Not to document them, but to evoke them.

People become places.
Places return as presences.

The images move in a space of abstraction that is never cold – a tension between disappearance and imprint,
where memory is not reconstructed, but sensed.

With closed eyes

This is not a search for the city’s visible beauty.
It is an attempt to restore a connection —
with those who once walked its streets,
until they became part of them.

The images do not show.
They suggest.

Fragments of memory surface like brief flashes,
between absence and unfamiliar presence.

Border Town — because what cannot be seen is a city of threshold,
suspended between the reality of matter and the imagination that reshapes it.

In the end, the role of the artist is perhaps this:
to offer something of oneself to the viewer.

This is my vision.
This is my Pesaro.
